Ridango is proud to announce its latest success in Lithuania, securing the contract to implement a common, open electronic ticketing system for public transport in city of Šiauliai.
As Lithuania’s fourth-largest population centre, Šiauliai is a key hub in the Baltic transport network due to its strategic position between Kaunas, Klaipėda and Riga.
Unified ticketing system for Šiauliai and beyond
The new electronic ticket system will be designed not only for the city of Šiauliai but also for the Šiauliai and Radviliškis districts. The unified system will allow passengers to travel freely and conveniently between these three municipalities.
The new system was purchased by the Šiauliai municipality, and Busturas has been appointed as responsible for its implementation. Busturas manages 109 buses in Šiauliai, 36 in the Šiauliai district, and 34 in Radviliškis. The combined fleet serves around 11 million passengers each year. With a workforce of 320 people, the company manages 40 routes within the city, ensuring efficient and reliable transportation for all.
Delivering intelligent transport
The deployment includes Ridango’s advanced touchscreen validators, which provide fast and secure ticket validation, delivering a smoother boarding experience to passengers.
The introduction of contactless bank card acceptance directly in validators will further modernise the system, allowing passengers to pay for their journeys quickly and effortlessly using bank cards, mobile wallets and wearables. This feature is becoming a global standard in public transport, offering convenience and flexibility to travellers.
Improving passenger expericene
Ridango’s comprehensive and intuitive transit management toolset gives a real-time visibility and control over the entire fleet. By providing real-time visibility and operational control, automated vehicle location (AVL) enables transit operators to optimise routes, enhance service reliability and make data-driven decisions. This results in improved passenger satisfaction and a more efficient public transport network.
Implementation and looking ahead
Šiauliai joins some of Lithuania’s largest cities Vilnius, Klaipėda, and Panevėžys, in benefiting from Ridango’s solutions. Passengers in Šiauliai can expect to profit from these enhancements from early 2026, with updates and improvements rolled out progressively.
