Improve depot utilization with advanced interchange management

Tomaz walks through the functionality of the solution and explains the improvements that can be expected when implementing an interchange management solution:

Significantly enhance the customer experience with open payments

Sven Rosenberg, Head of Sales, sets the scene by explaining how existing ticket sales options lag behind and how public transport authorities, operators and passengers expect a quick seamless ticket purchase experience, before offering a brief overview of our transit payment system (TPS).

  • Essentially it is a payment gateway implemented specifically for processing contactless payments in a transit environment.
  • A transit payment transaction is a special type of card payment specified and regulated by card organizations.
  • Ridango has implemented its transit payment system according to mass transit transaction rules specified by Mastercard and Visa.

He goes on to explain the difference between normal and public transport payment processing, to ensure that ticket purchasing is quick and easy, secure and trusted, flexible and universal – making it as seamless and convenient for customers as possible.

“Ridango can provide full contactless payment support, everything that is needed to actually implement and operate the system from the tap at the validator and processing the payment through to settlement and reporting. There is even a secure portal that allows customers to view their travel history. It is effectively an essential engine for allowing transit focused payments.”

Sven concludes with an overview of payment functionality and a case study on Skanetrafiken in Sweden and Tallinn Transportin in Estonia.

Transform public transport accessibility with on-demand services

With suburbs and rural areas lacking frequent scheduled based public transport services, operators need to provide flexible and accessible services that can be operated with maximum efficiency.

Ridango’s solution supports 2 models:

  • Social Transport (Paratransit): Allows the public transport authority to combine multiple people’s journey into a single trip, and makes entitlement handling and payment simple and convenient.
  • Public Transport in Rural Areas: Provides efficiency for authority or operator by using the right vehicle and making trips only when needed. It gives passengers access to public transport network at a time and location of their choosing, and can also be applied to school transport.

Sven explains that the DRT solution can also be implemented as an extension of Ridango’s account based ticketing, offering an easy pathway for existing customers by leveraging core functionality. The main solution components includes: service order registration, customer and vehicle registration management, system assisted dispatch for route management and planning, multiple payment options, customer web portal and mobile app, analytics and reporting – with a host of future developments in the pipeline.

He also dives into the benefits, supported by a case study on a customer in Estonia carrying out 150 DRT trips a day using 17 vehicles:

  • Operators and Authorities: Optimized logistics, higher efficiency and customer management.
  • Customers: Travel availability, easy payment and convenient service ordering.
