Ridango to continue administration and maintenance of the public transport ticketing system in Tallinn and Harju County for another seven years
Tallinn City Transport Department, Harju Public Transport Centre and Tallinn City Enterprise Department signed as a result of a negotiated procurement procedure, a contract for the administration and maintenance of the public transport ticketing system with Ridango. The contract was signed for seven years, with validity until September 2023.
“In addition to the ticketing system administration and maintenance the contract also contains a number of new innovative solutions – for example, QR- and bar-code readers to be installed in Tallinn and Harju County public transport, which in the future will allow to validate one’s journey also on the pre-printed tickets or on a smartphone screen, without having to have the Tallinn Public Transport Card,” said Tallinn Transport Department Ticketing System Senior Specialist Tiit Laiksoo. Tallinn City Enterprise Department Tourism Section Senior Specialist Kersti Paap added: “Without a doubt, this is also convenient from the tourist’s point of view, therefore, we also plan to start selling TallinnCards which can be validated with a QR-code.”
“While attending international conferences and exhibitions in the ticketing field, I have repeatedly been assured that Tallinn’s ticketing system with its advanced features is very innovative and cutting edge. A good example of this is the Park & Ride solution, which at the beginning of this year gained a lot of attention and appreciation at the prestigious Transportation Ticket & Passenger Information Global Awards competition, “commented Ridango’s Sales Director Argo Verk.
“We are happy to see our good cooperation with Tallinn continue, as well as to see the existing ticketing system updated, “added Verk.
Today, the Public Transport Card also permits using the public transport in other Estonian locations besides Tallinn, like Tartu, Narva and Kohtla-Järve, but also in a number of counties and inter-city traffic. The Public Transport Cards function regardless of the place of purchase or the card’s design following the principle of cross-usage, permitting the use of the same card when travelling in many areas all over Estonia.
